Horsin’ Around

They say The Kentucky Derby is the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. But really sometimes it’s the last 10 seconds that is the most exciting!!  I love betting on the longshots, the underdogs because if one of those long shots wins its a nice payout. We have been going to local horse tracks for many years but this year we decided to go to the granddaddy of them all – Churchill Downs!!  Kentucky is just about a hour and a half drive from Nashville so after the Zac Brown Band concert on Friday we decided to forgo bar hopping with our friends so we could wake up bright and early to head to Louisville.  Even though it was early it was hard not to enjoy the lovely drive, everything was green and lush! Once we drove up to Churchill Downs we found a primo parking spot in the neighborhood across from the track and we were all set for the grandeur of traditional horse racing at its finest!

{the BEST Mint Julep E.V.E.R. – and the glass was a souvenir.  P.S. I have 2 souvenirs!}

My husband was the big winner that day. It was the best win he’s ever had at a racetrack and I can’t tell you how happy he was that it happened at such a special event.

This is a vacation I will never forget and I am so thankful I got to experience it!

AND I WILL be going back!

Have a great week!

Another Happy Birthday

I celebrated another year of getting wiser, at least that’s how I’m looking at it now.  It was so perfect that I had a four day weekend in order to get the most of the celebrations with family and friends by celebrating Thanksgiving and my youngest nephews birthday on Thursday and the rest of the weekend it was all about ME!! HAHAHA
{Spent Thanksgiving with family and also celebrated my youngest nephews birthday}
IMG_7370{Friday we went to lunch in Del Mar and start the birthday weekend with a sangria}
{After a quick lunch we headed to the racetrack to win some money, or at least I won some money!! =) }
{As you can see from the looks on faces! LOL}
{On Saturday we headed to Orange County to continue the birthday fun with our friends}
My hubs surprised me by renting a Mercedes limo and we headed off to dinner at the Mexican restaurant ‘South of Nicks” and I had a fabulous Mexican Mojito made with tequila and rum! Afterwards we went to the Ritz Carlton in Dana Point for a drink or two.  Christmas decorations were up and beautiful.
{Instead of a Gingerbread House they have Gingerbread Wave and beach scene. Love the shark with atlers and the surfing doggies!!}
{Kind of a spooky shot I took from inside the limo. Not sure if the windows gave it that red tint but I like it}
{My love and I }

Sunday was my actual birthday so my Dad drove in to see me and take us out for lunch at one of our favorite wineries Leoness.  I was enjoying my family (and not to mention their Holiday Sangria!)  so much  we didnt really take pictures but here is my dessert.  YUM!!
{peanut butter mousse covered in chocolate with with sugared bananas and banana gelato. They also made cotton candy especially for my nephews for dessert. That’s the big cotton ball looking thing at the top of photo!}
It was such a great birthday weekend that I will not forget!!  Thanks to my family and friends who made it so special!! Love you all!!
I hope you all had a great weekend too!

Labor day weekend

Ah I love 3 day weekends! I’m sure I’ve said it before but I wish I could have 3 day weekend every week!!

On Saturday we had lunch and then went for a drive around our town. We took a road we hadn’t been down before and found a great little winery. We were just in time for a classic rock cover band to start playing so we walked around for a bit and then I grabbed some sangria and we listened to the music as the sun went down.

{hubby takes the most artistic photos with his phone. Don’t know how he does it but I may have to hire him!}

{Some wooden signs in the gift shop of the winery – so cute I may have to go back and get one!}

{Gorgeous sunset}

On Sunday we drove to Orange County for a BBQ/Pool Party at a friends house. It was so fun to see people we haven’t see since last year’s wedding festivities!  I forgot to take photos (i guess having too much fun will do that to you) but their back yard pool is so nice with a little waterfall. The kids in group were having so much fun!

On Monday we drove to Del Mar for one last day at the races since their Summer meet ends this week. It wasn’t as crowded as I thought it would be so it was so nice to be able to find somewhere to sit in the paddock area.

{My favorite jockey}

{Del Mar Fall meet starts in November  and its the first time they will have a Fall meet. Should be fun and probably chilly (well California chilly!)}

Thanks for stopping by!

Life lately . . .

Happy Friday Eve everyone! It’s been a little busy for me lately so I just plan on sharing a little bit of my week with you!  We went to Del Mar Racetrack on Sunday for the Pacific Classic horse race which is a big race for California horse racing. It was a beautiful day, quite warm but still comfortable!! We met our friends there and they had their kids with them so we got to experience the Family Fun area in the infield like pony rides, bouncy houses and face painting.

{Beautiful Del Mar}

{Yes! A nun in the paddock!?! You k now I had to get a picture of that!!}

{Work outfit – an old skirt from Anthropologie I found on sale for less than $20. Unheard of usually!!}

{Zara leopard dress (old and also on sale) with an edgy spikey necklace}

{a new floral top from F21 less that $19)

{a semi-conservative zebra “secretary” blouse (old F21) and knit roll down skirt from Old Navy, seriously so comfortable I wear it all the time and I got it on clearance for $9!!

Hope you are having a great week so far and YEA for a Labor Day holiday on Monday!!

Life according to my iPhone

I hope you all had a great weekend! They always go by way too fast of course. Lately I have been thinking about how to get more viewers to my blog but then again I don’t want to be out there too much.  I guess I just want to know if people care about what I write about.  I love clothes, shoes and fashion but I don’t take the best pictures.  I guess when I started this blog I thought it would get my creative juices flowing and that I would have so much to write about but I guess I don’t have as much creativity as I thought!  BOOO!   But I DO LOVE hearing from you who do read my blog and I hope that you continue to visit! =)

{Hubby made a brie baked in bread and added fruit, salami and crackers. It was so fancy and nice!}

{Speaking of fancy-  a new favorite inexpensive wine and from Target. I love Target!}

{ On Saturday we went to Cucinia Enoteca in Del Mar before heading to the horse races. They have cute decor – part Anthropologie/part horse theme with toy horses hanging along the stairs and the food was EXCELLENT!!}

{White wine sangria served in a mason jar}

{View of the paddock}

{Came home with some extra spending money thanks to horses with cute names}

{On Sunday we went to a local restaurant the Public House for lunch and I had a white raspberry sangria that was to die for}

{And then we picked up some wine member shipments}

{“Dalmatian” top from H&M and old black pencil skirt and Target peep toes}

(F21 Summer dress and a Target black blazer for work appropriateness, Target black sandals}

{Yes I’m on the romper train!! This actually looked a lot cuter in person plus I got complimented at lunch. =) F21 black romper comfy and inexpensive}

And please feel free to give me any suggestions or words of encouragement ‘)

aka  Wow.Whatta.Weekend!  Yeah i came up with that all by myself!! HAHA

We had such a great long weekend and I’m so thankful for the chance to have fun and hang out with fabulous friends! As I mentioned in my last post we went to Opening Day at Del Mar Racetrack on Thursday so I took Thursday and Friday off from work because as I get older I need that day after to recuperate.

We met my sister and bro-in-law at a restaurant near the racetrack in Del Mar named Sea and Smoke.  The food is absolutely delicious and they also had special drinks in honor of Opening Day. We sat in the back patio enjoying a beautiful late morning drinking mojitos and bloody marys.

We then headed towards the racetrack just down the street but there was so much traffic to get there it took a little longer than we expected but eventually we made it.  Our friends met us later and then we ran into more friends and it was such a fun time even if I didn’t win a lot of money! =(

{truly one of the most beautiful race tracks anywhere}

[gotta admire the jockeys for their endurance, strength and courage riding the beautiful, strong and speedy horses]

[hats, hats and more hats!}
